Plus, when you adopt, your new kitty will likely be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated before going home. Each year, more than 3.2 million cats enter shelters in the US, and 860,000 are euthanized. Euthanizations happen for many reasons (illness, severe injuries, etc.), but sometimes, healthy cats are put to sleep simply because there is no space for them. When you adopt a cat, you save their life and make room for another kitty in need of a home, thereby saving two lives instead of one.
