As our pets age, their veterinary care needs will change. The exact age a pet enters their golden years will vary depending on their species, breed and overall size. For example, a small breed dog has a much longer lifespan than a Great Dane. We generally consider dogs around 7 or 8 years and cats around 11 years old to be “senior citizens."
